When I met Lindsay, I knew she would change my life and further solidify why I chose this career path. Boudoir photography is my passion, and during my journey as a photographer, I’ve been able to meet so many amazing women with differing stories and differing pasts. When they leave my studio, they all share a common experience and begin the empowering journey toward self-love. I am so happy to be a part of that experience, and in particular I was so moved by Lindsay’s story.
Lindsay shared one of the most impactful stories I’ve heard in my studio. As a child she was the victim of familial abuse, and by 16 she fell for the first “bad boy” that showed an interest in her. As it turns out that bad boy was even worse than she could have imagined and at one point she was kidnapped by him and held at knife point. State troopers were able to rescue her, but her troubles did not stop there.
At 18 she was sexually abused once again, and shortly thereafter she met her husband who was emotionally, mentally & physically abusive. Despite all of this she was with him for 12 years, until one day she shared “enough was enough!” She expressed to me “I was torn down from my past. When someone would call me beautiful, I would get mad or laugh because I’d never seen my beauty.” Her past stole all that from her and all she could see was the broken, beaten up girl inside of her.
That changed the day she walked into my studio. She said, “when I walked into Julie’s studio I felt this calmness rush over me. I felt safe and could be myself. After our photoshoot, I looked at my pictures and I was blown away that I was looking at myself. I couldn’t believe that was me and for the first time in 32 years, I saw my beauty & strength!”
